PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface light source device capable of preventing failure in which at least one of a reflection sheet and a protrusion of a light guide plate is damaged when the protrusion which protrudes to the reflection sheet side formed on a back surface of the light guide plate and the reflection sheet come into contact with each other, a transmission type image display device including the same and the light guide plate.SOLUTION: A surface light source device 30 for emitting planar light in a predetermined direction includes: a light source part 60; a light guide plate 50; and a reflection sheet 70. The light guide plate 50 has: an end surface 51c where light from the light source part 60 is made incident; an emission surface 51a intersecting with the end surface 51c and emitting planar light; and a back surface 51b on the opposite side of a first surface. The reflection sheet 70 is provided facing the back surface 51b and reflects light from the light guide plate 50. At the light guide plate 50, projections 53 for diffusing incident light are provided on the emission surface 51a. |
