PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of extending the life of a cleaning mechanism while preventing poor cleaning even when paper with low smoothness is used.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus includes: an image carrier 1; a cleaning mechanism 6 that recovers a toner on the image carrier 1; a control unit 50 that controls, after completion of normal image forming operation of the image carrier 1, to perform reverse operation to rotate the image carrier 1 in a reverse direction to that during the normal image formation, and a smoothness detection device 27 that detects the smoothness of transfer paper P supplied to the image carrier 1. The control unit 50 changes the operation time period of the reverse operation according to the smoothness detected by the smoothness detection device 27. |
