PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust gas purification catalyst and an exhaust gas purification method for oxidation removal of PM (particulate matter) contained in an exhaust gas from a lean burn engine such as a lean burn gasoline engine and a diesel engine.SOLUTION: There is provided an exhaust gas purification catalyst for a lean burn engine which comprises: a first metal oxide (PrOand PrO) selected from the group consisting of praseodymium oxide, terbium oxide and a combination thereof; and a second metal oxide (NdO) selected from the group consisting of lanthanum oxide, neodymium oxide, yttrium oxide and a combination thereof.
