757,534. Cooling dynamo-electric machines. SWENDSEN, J. W. Jan. 29, 1954 [Feb. 5, 1953], No. 2720/54. Class 35. [Also in Group XIII] A heat exchanger, particularly for the cooling of dynamo-electric machines comprises two spaced discs 1, 2 spaced apart by means such as pins 3 and mounted on a shaft 9 (e.g. a motor shaft), a strip 4 of material extending between the discs and being folded in a zig-zag manner around the pins 3 to form a fan with hollow blades, one heat-exchanging fluid being caused to flow by way of an opening 5 located between the blades and formed in the disc 2, over the outer surfaces of the blades, while a second heatexchanging fluid flows within the hollow blades by way of inlet and outlet apertures 6, 7 provided at suitable locations in the disc 1. In the form shown, air within a totally enclosed electric motor circulates through the hollow blades of the fan and is cooled by ambient air flowing over the blades. The disc 1 is provided with a peripheral seal 10.
