PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image recording device and an image recording method capable of avoiding interference to a discharge head by a thickness change part of a recording medium such as a joint without deteriorating productivity.SOLUTION: An inkjet recording device 1 as an image recording device includes: a discharge head for recording an image by discharging a liquid on a recording medium W which is stopped on a support member; a detection unit arranged on an upstream side in a conveyance path from the discharge head on the support member, and detecting height of an image recording surface on the discharge head side of the recording medium; a head lifting mechanism for changing the position of the discharge head with respect to the support member in the vertical direction; and a control unit for controlling the head lifting mechanism in such a manner that, when the detection unit has detected a thickness change part showing change exceeding a threshold value of the height of the image recording surface, the position of the discharge head with respect to the image recording surface is changed according to the direction and the amount of the height change between the original height of the image recording surface and the height of the image recording surface at the thickness change part. |
