摘要 A weakly basic anion exchange resin is obtained by heating at a temperature between 75 DEG and 100 DEG C. in alkaline solution, a strongly basic anion exchange resin carrying a plurality of tertiary sulphonium groups each having at least two alkoxy aryl groups attached to sulphur. The total capacity of the anion exchange material is unaffected. The products are particularly useful for purifying sugar juices. They may be used in non-aqueous liquids, e.g. alcohols, ethers, esters or halogen alkanes. In examples: (1) a strongly basic material prepared from trianisyl sulphonium chloride paraformaldehyde and sulphuric acid as described in Specification 737,924 was neutralized with soda lye and heated with 4 per cent caustic soda solution at 120 DEG C. for 10 hours. The granular structure of the resin is maintained but the grains shrink; (2) is similar, but the starting resin was prepared at higher temperature and already had a higher proportion of weakly basic to strongly basic groups than the starting material of example (1).
