PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid: the situation of travel stop of a vehicle on the way of a flooded road; or the occurrence of a malfunction of an air flow meter or the like caused by outflow of water droplets.SOLUTION: In an air cleaner 11 in which an axial flow type filter element 1 is accommodated in a housing 3 so that the axial direction of the filter element is oriented in the vertical direction, air 2 introduced to a bottom of the hosing 3 is made to pass upward from downward through the filter element 1, and foreign matters in the air 2 are collected, a part of a passage 1c in the filter element 1 is isolated from a surrounding passage by a waterproof film 12 (waterproof layer) and made to serve as an emergency ventilation area 13, and a bypass passage 8 for introducing the air 2 from an auxiliary air intake port 9 is connected to a lower end of the passage of the emergency ventilation area 13. |
