PLATE GLASS CUTTING METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved technology which allows performing a stable fusion-cutting and avoiding degradation in quality of a plate glass in a case where laser fusion-cutting of the plate glass is performed and an edge formed in the fusion-cutting is separated from the plate glass.SOLUTION: A cutting method includes: a fusion cutting process where a tensile stress area W is formed at a position along a planned cutting line X by performing laser fusion-cutting of a plate glass G near the planned cutting line X and parallel to the planned cutting line X; and an initial crack forming process where an initial crack C is formed at an intersection between the planned cutting line X and an edge part GS of the plate glass G. Before the fusion cutting process is performed, a processing step for preventing cutting naturally generated by tensile stress by the laser fusion cutting is performed for the edge part Gs of the plate glass G including the planned cutting line X.
