PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of accurately detecting and removing characteristic damage on the surface of an image carrier, even when the damage suddenly occurs, so as to suppress adverse effects such as abrasion of charging means.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus 100 has a photoreceptor drum 1 that has a roughened surface layer, a charging roller 2 that is in contact with the surface of the photoreceptor drum 1 to uniformly charge the photoreceptor drum 1, an optical sensor 9 that detects a state of roughness of the surface of the photoreceptor drum 1, and a memory 11c that stores a detection result by the optical sensor 9; and includes a controller 11 that controls the drive of the optical sensor 9 and the memory 11c. When the controller 11 determines that the roughness of the surface of the photoreceptor drum 1 detected by the optical sensor 9 is equal to or larger than a predetermined threshold, increases a voltage applied to the charging roller 2. |
