Disclosed are an apparatus for charging an electric vehicle and a method for operating the same. The apparatus for charging an electric vehicle is a plug-in type charging apparatus which is connected to a system power supply to charge an electric vehicle. The apparatus for charging the electric vehicle receives power from the electric vehicle if the electric car is connected with the apparatus, and is driven by the power supply which has been input. Therefore, the present invention can minimize power consumed during standby time when the apparatus for charging the electric vehicle does not charge the electric vehicle. |
