The present invention relates to an apparatus for driving a light emitting diode, which primarily varies a voltage level in a power supply circuit according to a state of power supplied to the light emitting diode and secondarily varies a voltage or current level in a DC/DC conversion circuit. The apparatus for driving a light emitting diode includes a power supply to convert input power into DC power having a voltage level according to a received reference voltage; a DC/DC converter to vary a voltage or current level of the DC power from the power supply and supply light emitting diode driving power to the light emitting diode; and a controller to deliver the reference voltage to the power supply according to a state of the power to be supplied to the light emitting diode and control a power conversion operation of the DC/DC converter.
