The present technique relates to an image sensor and a method for fabricating the same, which includes a step of forming a light receiving device in a substrate which includes multiple unit pixel regions; a step of forming an interlayer insulation film which includes a metal line on the substrate; a step of forming a trench in the interlayer insulation film to correspond to the light receiving device; a step of performing surface treatment on the trench; and a step of forming an optical waveguide by gap-filling a photoresist material in the trench.
