METHOD OF MANUFACTURING ARAMID COPOLYMER

An aramid copolymer is prepared by adding isophthaloyl dichloride in place of a portion of the total amount of terephthaloyl dichloride to prepare and copolymerize the copolymer when making para-phenylenediamine react with the terephthaloyl dichloride at an equimolar ratio to prepare the aramid copolymer. According to a preferable embodiment of the present invention, the aramid copolymer is prepared by adding and copolymerizing the isophthaloyl dichloride in place of the terephthaloyl dichloride corresponding to 5 to 10 weight % of the terephthaloyl dichloride having the same mole fraction as para-phenylenediamine. In the aramid copolymer prepared by the method of the present invention, a crystal and an orientation are correctly formed, thereby significantly improving elongation and tenacity in the preparation of an aramid fiber.
