The present invention relates to an in-plane switching mode liquid crystal display. The liquid crystal display of the present invention includes: a pixel region defined in the form of a matrix on a substrate; a pixel electrode disposed in a rod shape having a first width in the pixel region; a thin film transistor substrate having a common electrode disposed in a rod shape having the first width at a distance of a second width, which is 1.5-2.6 times greater than the first width, from the pixel electrode in the same layer as the pixel electrode in the pixel region; an upper substrate facing the thin film transistor substrate; and a liquid crystal layer interposed between the thin film transistor substrate and the upper substrate. The present invention may provide the thin film transistor substrate for the in-plane switching mode liquid crystal display having a high aperture ratio and high luminance, which can utilize almost all parts of the pixel region as an open region.
