A shock absorber is provided with a cylinder, a piston, a piston rod, a damping passage, a bypass passage, a shutter, a pressing member, and a control spring which has one end affixed to the cylinder and the other end facing the shutter. When the piston is displaced relative to the cylinder to the compression chamber side beyond a predetermined position, the shutter is pressed by the control spring and closes the bypass passage. The control spring is a conical coil spring having a small diameter at the other end. A guide ring which is in sliding contact with the inner periphery of the cylinder is mounted to the small diameter-side end of the control spring. |
