<p>759,118. Centrifugal separators. NATIONAL RESEARCH COUNCIL. Oct. 19, 1954 [Oct. 23, 1953], No. 30089/54. Class 23. A dust separator comprising a scroll inlet 11, a cylindrical body 10, a conical section 13 forming an extension of the body, and a cylindroconical gas outlet 17, discharges dust into a hopper 14. The cross-section of the hopper is circular, or approximately so, and the hopper has a maximum cross-sectional dimension lying between ¥D and 1¢D (where D is the diameter of the body). The hopper length lies between 1¢D and 3D, and the diameter of the hopper inlet 15 is <SP>1</SP>/ 3 D. The cylindrical part 18 of the gas outlet extends into the body a distance of ¥ D beyond the scroll and has a diameter lying between 0À55D and 0À6D, whilst the conical part 20 has a length lying between 0À4D and 0À45D and a smaller diameter of <SP>1</SP>/ 3 D. The scroll fairs into the body with a radius of 0À10D. Between 10 per cent and 15 per cent of the gas discharged through the gas outlet first passes into the hopper with the dust which is discharged from the hopper by means of a valve 25.</p> |
