Ensilage is preserved against deterioration by forming in situ on the exposed surfaces an air-impervious non-toxic film, preferably of carboxy-methyl-cellulose. The film may be applied by thoroughly wetting the surface and adding the material in powder form, by spraying the surface with a solution of the material, or by blowing the material in the form of a powder or in solution into the silo with the ensilage. A preservative for the material may be included. |
