<p>The method involves reading a seat harness release signal in a first state and a second state. A seat occupancy signal regarding an occupant protection belt of an assigned vehicle seat (102) and/or a door lock signal regarding a vehicle door adjacent to the belt are read. A time sequence of the first and second states and/or a state change of the release signal concerning the third, fourth, fifth and sixth states and/or a state change of the occupancy signal and/or the lock signal is evaluated to recognize an abusive use of the belt. The seat harness signal represents insertion of a belt tongue (106) in a buckle (104) of an occupant protection belt in the first state and release of the belt tongue from the buckle in the second state. The seat occupancy signal represents occupancy and non-occupancy of a vehicle seat in the third and fourth states, respectively. The door lock signal represents locked and unlocked vehicle door in the fifth and sixth states, respectively. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for recognizing an abusive use of an occupant protection belt of a vehicle (2) a computer program product comprising a set of instructions to execute a method for recognizing an abusive use of an occupant protection belt of a vehicle.</p> |
