PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform a scrutiny process irrespective of the number of bills accumulated in a bill cassette.SOLUTION: The bill processing device includes: one or two or more bill accumulation parts for accumulating bills; a replenishment and collection part for accumulating the bills collected from the bill accumulation part or the bills to be replenished in the bill accumulation part; a temporary retention part for temporarily retaining the bills; and a control part for controlling a scrutiny process of the bills accumulated in the one or two or more bill accumulation parts. The control part distributes and moves the bills accumulated in the bill accumulation part to the replenishment and collection part and the temporary retention part, and controls the scrutiny process which returns the bills to the bill accumulation part from the replenishment and collection part and the temporary retention part.
