PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carbon fiber which suppresses formation of a fragile layer on the carbon fiber surface and is imparted efficiently with functional groups effective for adhesion.SOLUTION: A carbon fiber has a ratio (A)/(B) of (A) the height (cps) of the binding energy (288.6 eV) assigned to COO to (B) the height (cps) of the binding energy (284.6 eV) assigned to CHx, C-C and C=C of 0.14-0.20, in a Cinner shell spectrum, measured at a photoelectron escape angle of 45° by X-ray photoelectronic spectroscopy, and a UV absorbance of 2.0 or smaller for an extract with an aqueous solution of tetraethyl ammonium hydroxide. |
