The present invention relates to a converter in which multiple sub-modules having an energy storage unit and a power semiconductor are connected in series to each other and in which each sub-module is configured by adding a simple and inexpensive auxiliary circuit unit between two half-bridge units, thus enabling introduced fault current to flow to the energy storage unit of each half bridge unit and cutting off or reducing the fault current. The converter of the present invention comprises multiple sub-modules connected in series to each other. According to the present invention, each sub-module comprises: a first half-bridge unit including a first energy storage unit and multiple first power semiconductors respectively connected in parallel to the first energy storage unit and connected in series to each other; a second half-bridge unit including a second energy storage unit and multiple second power semiconductors respectively connected in parallel to the second energy storage unit and connected in series to each other; and an auxiliary circuit unit for interconnecting the first half-bridge unit and the second half-bridge unit. Further, the auxiliary circuit unit includes one third power semiconductor and one diode. |
