Provided are: a transparent resin composition for sealing an organic electroluminescent (EL) element, said resin composition exhibiting a sufficient moisture barrier effect and excellent softness; a resin sheet for sealing an organic EL element; and an image display device. This transparent resin composition is characterized in that: the transparent resin composition comprises, as essential components, a thermoplastic resin, a tackifier resin and an organometallic compound represented by the chemical formula [wherein R1 to R4 are each an organic group such as C1-8 alkyl, aryl, alkoxy, cycloalkyl or acyl, and M is a trivalent metal atom, with the proviso that R1 to R4 may be the same or different]; the resin composition exhibits a light transmittance of 85% or more at a wavelength of 550nm at a thickness of 0.1mm; the resin composition satisfies the relationship AM/Y<162 [wherein A is the acid value of the resin composition exclusive of the organometallic compound, M is the weight-average molecular weight of the organometallic compound, and Y is the weight ratio thereof relative to 100 parts by weight of the resin components]; and the thermoplastic resin contains a hydrogenation product of a styrene-based A-B-A triblock body.
