Provided is a method for manufacturing a fine glass particle deposit that can prevent changes in outside diameter of a fine glass particle deposit and can improve glass raw material yields. A starting rod (11) and a burner (22) for producing fine glass particles are disposed in a reaction vessel (2). Glass raw material is introduced to the burner (22), and fine glass particles are produced by carrying out a flame cracking reaction with the glass raw material within a flame formed by the burner (22). The fine glass particles that are produced are deposited on the starting rod (11) and a fine glass particle deposit is fabricated. At this time, the spread of the glass raw material sprayed from the burner (22) is 5 - 70° from the center axis of the burner (22). |
