A method and device for playing a multi-media file are disclosed in embodiments of the present invention. The method for playing the multi-media file comprises: recognizing a face of a viewer to determine a age type of the viewer, wherein the age type comprising a adult type and a juvenile type; obtaining position and length information of the sensitive segment in the multi-media file if the determining age type comprising the juvenile type; playing the multi-media file that concealing the sensitive segment for the viewer according to the position and length information of the sensitive segment in the multi-media file. The adverse effect of inappropriate video image etc. information to the juveniles can be avoided in embodiments of the present invention.
