PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a sulfonated alkylated aromatic hydrocarbon.SOLUTION: There is provided a method of manufacturing synthesized petroleum sulfonate including the following processes. (a) a process of reacting an initial amount of at least one kind of aromatic compound with the initial amount of an olefin mixture having 8 to 100 carbon atoms in the presence of a strong acid catalyst, the obtained product contains at least 60 mass% of a 1,2,4-trialkyl substituted aromatic compound, (b) a process of sulfonating the product by the process (a), and (c) a process of neutralizing the product by the process (b) with alkali or alkali earth metal hydroxide or ammonia.
