PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method which enables more accurate diagnosis of AD and more accurate prediction of the onset of AD.SOLUTION: A method for detecting the abnormality ofγ-secretase at an early stage, which includes measuring level of p3-Alc in a sample from a patient who is affected with dementia or is suspected to be affected with dementia and which is achieved on the basis of a finding that the change in numerical levels of p3-Alc (particularly p3-Alcβ37 and p3-Alc40) is correlates with the progression of CDR. It is also found that p3-Alc is useful for the quantitative diagnosis of the patient or the prediction of prognosis of the patient and is therefore useful for the determination of the effect of the administration of a drug or the effect of the discontinuation of a therapy.
