WATER-HOLDING MATERIAL FOR CUT FLOWER AND PRESERVING METHOD

The present invention addresses the problem of providing: a water-holding material for an ornamental flower, said water -holding material being capable of preserving a cut flower in a fresh state for a long period without worrying water leakage and ensuring excellent workability; and a preserving method for an ornamental flower. This preserving method is characterized by comprising: preparing a water-holding material which contains a water-based impregnating solution by adding the impregnating solution to a fiber assembly which is mainly composed of cellulose fibers having a mean fiber diameter of 25μm or less with the amount of the impregnating solution added being of 10 to 21ml per g of the fiber assembly; inserting a cut flower into the resulting water-holding material; and thus preserving the cut flower.
