A process for producing a rare-earth magnet is provided in which, even when a powder of a modifying alloy is used in order to heighten the coercive force, the powder of a modifying alloy can be prevented from undergoing oxidation or hydroxylation and a melt of the powder can be made to effectively diffuse and penetrate. The process for producing a rare-earth magnet comprises: a step in which a magnetic powder (B) comprising a main phase (MP) based on RE-T-B (RE is at least one of Nd, Pr, and Y) and a grain boundary phase (BP) surrounding the main phase (MP) is subjected to hot pressing to produce a molded object (S), and the molded object (S) is subjected to hot plastic working to produce a rare-earth magnet precursor (C); and a step in which a modifying alloy powder (M) that comprises an RE-M alloy (M is a metallic element excluding the heavy rare-earth elements) and has an average particle diameter of 30 μm or larger is brought into contact with the surface of the rare-earth magnet precursor (C) and heated to allow a melt of the modifying alloy powder (M) to diffuse and penetrate into the rare-earth magnet precursor (C), thereby producing a rare-earth magnet (RM). |
