[Also in Group VIII] U-shaped strips 2 of thermoplastic material, e.g. a polyvinyl chloride composition, are applied to the edges of a belting structure 1 comprising one or more lengths of fabric coated with a thermoplastic material, so that the arms 6 of the U-shaped strips embrace the outer surfaces of the structure. The thermoplastic material of the U-shaped strips and of the adjacent portions of the surfaces along the belting edges are then fused, e.g. by radio-frequency heating means 4, so as to form short welds 7.
