Disclosed is a coating composition for forming a hard coat film that exhibits good adhesion to a plastic optical base by itself, while being effectively prevented from the formation of cracks or the like that could be caused by the thermal history during the curing period or the like. Specifically disclosed is a coating composition for forming a hard coat film, which contains, as essential ingredients, fine inorganic oxide particles, a hydrolyzable organosilicon compound, water, a curing catalyst and an organic solvent. The coating composition for forming a hard coat film is characterized in that a cyclic ketone is contained in an amount of 0.10-30.00 parts by mass per 100 parts by mass of the total of the fine inorganic oxide particles and the hydrolyzable organosilicon compound. |
