A cigarette-making machine safety system comprises a housing including an opening 20 and a compacting chamber 41 in communication with the opening for receiving loose tobacco. A compacting member 68 is mounted for reciprocal up and down motion to compact loose tobacco in the compacting chamber into a rod-like shape and an electrically powered motor 140 is provided for moving the compacting member. A switch (312, Fig 8) for powering the motor and a protective door (320, Fig 8) for blocking access to the compacting chamber and initiating operation of the motor is provided also. Advantageously the safety system reduces injury to the user by preventing access to the compacting chamber during use. |
