[Class 78 (i)] [Also in Group XXI] A method of transporting a liquid comprising an explosive nitric ester whereby a continuous line of explosive material between the sending and delivery stations is avoided, thus reducing the probability of communication of detonation, comprises timed intermittent syphoning operations from reservoirs disposed between the stations. The explosive runs by gravity from station A to a reservoir 2, where, after attaining a pre-determined level, it is syphoned by syphon 5 to a pipe 6 connecting the reservoir 2 to another reservoir 7. The rate of syphoning from reservoir 2 is arranged to be much greater than the rate of delivery to that reservoir so that a break of flow occurs at reservoir 2 and syphon 5 before the liquid explosive reaches the reservoir 7, whence it is syphoned to a delivery pipe 11 by a syphon 10 while the break still occurs in the reservoir 2, and pipe 6. The nitric ester may be in the form of an emulsion with an aqueous alkaline solution, and in this case the mixture is stirred by air bubbled through it from tubes 3 in the reservoirs, which are also provided with drainage taps 4.</p>
