The present invention relates to an electric vehicle and a control method thereof. The control method includes measuring the voltage or current of the operation power supplied to a motor from a battery; determining the state of a vehicle based on a measured value; outputting predetermined sound as a driving noise of the vehicle; determining the state of the vehicle via the sound to be output; and outputting different sound depending on the driving state of the vehicle. Therefore, the present invention can improve satisfaction by reducing the discomfort to the driver when driving the vehicle and improve safety by preventing accidents by allowing a pedestrian around the vehicle to easily recognize that the vehicle approaches through the sound to be output.
