PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a membrane electrode assembly and a fuel cell capable of restraining deterioration of a cathode catalyst layer by restraining a reverse current.SOLUTION: A fuel cell 10 and a membrane electrode assembly 50 are provided with an oxygen diffusion prevention layer between an anode catalyst layer 26 and an anode gas flow path 38. The oxygen diffusion prevention layer has oxygen diffusibility lower than that of the anode catalyst layer 26, and has a function for sufficiently diffusing hydrogen while restraining diffusion of oxygen. While the fuel battery cell is stopping, an amount of oxygen entering the anode catalyst layer 26 is reduced. Also, a reaction for deteriorating carbon is delayed by avoiding diffusion of oxygen entering the diffusion prevention layer during stopping with an oxygen diffusion prevention layer 27. |
