Class 20(3) In a window 1, 2 wherein the sash 1 can be moved, optionally, about a vertical axis 16 on a horizontal axis 40, the movement about the horizontal axis is produced by rotation of a horizontal shaft 5 having an arm 14, 20 at its opposite ends. The shaft is carried by the stationary frame 2 and is operated from a handle 7 also carried by the frame 2. One' arm 14 is permanently connected to the sash 1 and the other arm 20 is detachably connected thereto by way of a pin 21 working in a slot along the arm. The pin is carried by a rod.35 slidably mounted in the sash; when the rod is raised, by rotation of another handle 37, the pin leaves the arm 20 and the lower end of the rod leaves a recess 38 in the stationary frame so that the sash can now be swung about the vertical axis 16, the first arm 14 being co-axial with this axis. When the rod 35 is re-engaged in the recess 38, the sash being closed, the construction of hinge 17-19 and the form of the bearing 35<SP>1</SP>, 38 are such as to permit swinging movement of the sash about the horizontal axis. In the case of a tall window an additional releasable pin and arm connection 25, 26 may be provided, the arm being spring biased to hold the sash normally tightly closed at that side the other side of the sash being held closed by part 46, 47.
