Disclosed are a method and an apparatus for managing data for an augmented reality discovery mechanism. The method for managing data for an augmented reality discovery mechanism includes the steps of receiving a scene description stream of a file framework for the support of augmented reality (AR) and analyzing the scene description in the scene description stream; analyzing an AR node, included in the scene description, which represents information of plurality of AR content and collecting information of AR locators included in the AR node; detecting the information of the AR content and information of the relationship between the AR content based on the collected information; selecting at least one AR content based on the detected information; and augmenting and outputting reality objects of the selected AR content.
