A polymer of the formula:wherein: i is an integer that varies from 1 to an integer less than or equal to 10 which represents the ith type of Ai group; j is an integer that varies from 1 to an integer less than or equal to 10 which represents the jth type of Bj group; k is an integer that varies from 0 to an integer less than or equal to 15 which represents the kth type of Ck group; each xn is an integer from 1 to 100, inclusive, which represents the number of Ai-Bj; each ym is an integer from 0 to 150, inclusive, which represents the number of Ai-Ck; p is an integer from 2 to about 4500, which represents the average number of constitutional units in a polymer chain, wherein a constitutional unit is a repeating unit in the polymer chain; Mw is from about 10,000 to about 1,000,000 Da, which represents the weight average molecular weight of the polymer; si is a number from 0 to 0.5, inclusive, which represents the average mole fraction of each of the Ai; tj is a number from 0 to 0.5, inclusive, which represents the average mole fraction of each of the Bj; vk is a number from 0 to 0.5, inclusive, which represents the average mole fraction of each of the Ck; with the proviso that Σisi+Σjtj+Σkvk=1.0;Σisi=Σjtj+Σkvk=0.5;Σisi>0;Σjtj>0; each Ai has the chemical structure: each Bj has the chemical structure each Ck has the chemical structure: wherein: each Rbj, and Rbj′ are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and (1C-4C)alkyl, wherein: the alkyl group is optionally substituted with a moiety selected from the group consisting of —OH, —SH, —SeH, —C(O)OH, —NHC(NH)NH2,phenyl andor one or more of Rbj and Rbj′ may form a bridge between the carbon to which it is attached and the adjacent nitrogen, the bridge comprising —CH2CH2CH2—; each Rai is independently selected from the group consisting of (1C-12C)alkyl, (2C-12C)alkenyl, (3C-8C)cycloalkyl, —(CH2CH2O)qCH2CH2— wherein q is an integer from 1 to 10,inclusive, andwhere z is 0, 1, or 2; each Rcj is independently selected from the group consisting of (1C-12C)alkyl, (2C-12C)alkenyl, (3C-8C)cycloalkyl, —(CH2CH2O)qCH2CH2— wherein q is an integer from 1 to 10, inclusive, andwhere z is 1 or 2, wherein: at least one Rai is selected from the group consisting ofwhere z is 0, 1, or 2, or at least one Rcj is selected from the group consisting ofwhere z is 1 or 2, and allows for tuning of the miscibility and release rate characteristics of the polymer; Rdk is selected from the group consisting of a drug, a peptide, a straight or branched chain polymer, a brush polymer, a paramagnetic moiety, a contrast agent, —H, —OH, —O(1C-20C)alkyl, —O(2C-20C)alkenyl and —O(CH2CH2O)wCH2CH2ORek, wherein: w is an integer from 1 to 600, inclusive; Rek is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, —C(O)CH═CH2 and —C(O)C(CH3)═CH2; and, each Rai corresponds to the ith Ai group, each Rbj, Rbj′, and Rcj corresponds to the jth Bj group, and each Rdk and optionally Rek correspond to the kth Ck group.
