The present invention relates to a drive shaft protecting device, including a vehicle state detecting unit for detecting vehicle information including the current gear, the hydraulic pressure signal of a hydraulic pressure detecting unit installed in a hydraulic pressure power steering assembly, the speed of the vehicle, and the RPM of the engine; a traction controlling unit which analyzes the vehicle information provided by the vehicle state detecting unit and requests for reducing the torque if the necessary conditions are satisfied; and an engine controlling unit for controlling to lower the torque which is applied to the drive shaft to be below the limit torque by lowering the output torque of the engine upon the torque reducing request of the traction control unit.
