The present invention relates to a refrigerator and an operating method thereof. An operating method of a refrigerator according to an embodiment of the present invention includes a step of taking an image of food being stocked or released; a step of determining the image of the food based on a list of the food in the refrigerator; and a step of updating the list of the food in the refrigerator based on the determined food image. Therefore, the list of the food in the refrigerator can be simply updated.
