An L-amino acid is produced by culturing an L-amino acid-producing bacterium which belongs to the Enterobacteriaceae family and which has been modified so that the activity of an iron transporter is increased by enhancing expression of one or more genes of the following genes: tonB gene, fepA gene, and fecA.

A method of producing an L-amino acid comprising culturing an L-amino acid-producing bacterium belonging to the Enterobacteriaceae family in a medium, and collecting the L-amino acid from the medium or said bacterium, wherein said bacterium has been modified to enhance the expression of a gene encoding a protein of the tonB system, wherein said gene is tonB, wherein said L-amino acid is selected from the group consisting of L-lysine and L-threonine, wherein said tonB gene encodes a protein comprising an amino acid sequence which is at least 95% identical to the entire sequence of SEQ ID NO: 2.
