The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for operating a display device of construction equipment. The present invention forms additional buttons capable of operating the display device (control key or functional key) on a joystick operating the construction equipment; provides an operation control mode for an operation of the construction equipment and a dashboard control mode which can remote control the display device, for a joystick mode; and maps each function controlling the display device with each button formed on the joystick, to remote control the display device with the joystick to improve the safety and efficiency of the operation.
