PURPOSE: A motor driving device for a laundry machine and a driving method thereof are provided to increase the driving efficiency of the motor by controlling an inverter of the motor driving device according to the washing and spin modes of the laundry modes. CONSTITUTION: A driving mode setting part (150) controls the connection of a neutral point of a motor (110) for a laundry machine according to the control of a motor control part (120) to set the operation mode of an inverter (140). A rotor position detecting part (160) detects the position of a rotor of the motor for the laundry machine. The motor control part detects the RPM of the motor in a spin mode. When the detected RPM is over a preset RPM, the motor control part makes the driving mode setting part set a half-pulse driving mode and generates driving signals for driving the half-pulse driving mode of the inverter.
