Disclosed are an apparatus and a method for optimizing the zoom magnification of a camera, capable of optimizing the zoom magnification of an interested region of a captured image to be effectively used for image analysis, or the like. The apparatus for optimizing the zoom magnification of a camera comprises a zoom lens enabling adjustment of zoom magnification; and a zoom magnification controller analyzing an image captured by the zoom lens, setting a boundary and an interested region to be scaled up and down according to the zoom magnification in the captured image, and determining the zoom magnification of the zoom lens such that the interested region is positioned within the boundary. The zoom magnification controller can set a boundary and an interested region with respect to each of continuous image frames captured by the zoom lens, and determine the zoom magnification of the zoom lens depending on the frequency that the interested region is out of the boundary for a pre-set period of time. |
