A backlight unit and an LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) having the same are provided to improve light diffusion and condensing characteristics by forming cylindric patterns having an improved light diffusion function and prism patterns having an improved light condensing function on a diffusion plate in a single unit. A backlight unit(120) comprises a light guide plate(170), a lamp(150), a reflective plate(180), a bottom case(190), and a diffusion plate(175). The lamp is installed at a side of the light guide plate. The reflective plate is arranged below the light guide plate. The bottom case accommodates the light guide plate, the lamp, and the reflective plate. The diffusion plate, arranged above the light guide plate, condenses and diffuses the light generated from the light guide plate. The diffusion plate comprises a body part(175b), a condensing part(175c), and a diffusion part(175a). The condensing part is formed of a plurality of prism mountain patterns. The diffusion part is composed of a plurality of cylindric protrusion patterns. |
