<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a homogeneous change compression ignition (HCCI) type gasoline engine having a wide operation area through development of a new ignition mechanism.SOLUTION: Another sub-piston for ignition having a small bore is arranged in addition to a normal main piston with respect to one cylinder so as to perform an ignition. Ignition characteristics are improved by an ignition method in which a compression gas compressed to a certain degree is further compressed rapidly by this sub-piston to cause its temperature to be rapidly increased to an ignition temperature or more for ignition, and thereby stable ignition characteristics can be assured and settings of an ignition timing can be clearly carried out.</p> |
