PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composition for producing a gas barrier material capable of providing a gas barrier material of high gas barrier ability, that has good handleability, viscosity stability and coatability and can form a coating of excellent water resistance.SOLUTION: A composition for producing a gas barrier material includes a monomer unit having a group represented by following formula (1), and contains a vinyl alcohol-based polymer satisfying following expression (I).
