PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for treating an exhaust gas where mercury in the exhaust gas can be efficiently reduced by that dust containing much mercury separated from the cement firing exhaust gas is heated at a low temperature lower than the boiling point of mercury and mercury is effectively volatilized and separated from the dust.SOLUTION: In a method and the like for treating an exhaust gas, a separation step to separate dust from a mercury-containing exhaust gas exhausted from a cement kiln and a reduced pressure heating step to heat the separated dust to 160°C or more and 340°C or less under a pressure of 0.76 kPa or more and 74.4 kPa or less are implemented.
