The invention relates to an insulation block to be employed in civil engineering industry and to a process for making the same. According to the invention, the block () with the dimensions of 60 x 120 x 20 cm is made of a metal mould (), a compact lattice of polyethylene balls, cushions or cylinders () having a diameter of less than 17 mm, filled with air and fixed in an external polyurethane foam layer () optionally protected outside by some rigid structures of 0.5 mm-thick metal sheets () and an adhesion-proof plate () located at the bottom of the mould (). The process, as claimed by the invention, consists in that polyethylene balls, cushions or cylinders () filled with air at the positive pressure of 0.01 bar are introduced into a mould () having the walls made of two metal sheets () of 60 x 120 cm and an adhesion-proof base plate () on which a 2...3 mm-thick coating of fire-proofing polyurethane foam () has been applied, before the expansion of the said polyurethane foam (), a free space of 1 cm provided at the top of the mould () being also filled with polyurethane foam (), after which the mould () is closed and, after the polymerization of the foam (), the mould () is opened to remove the insulation block () which has a thermal conduction of 0.023 W/mK and a density of the polyurethane foam () of 100 kg/m. |
