The present invention relates to a method to control a usable range of fuel. The method includes: an operation step of operating an automatic transmission lever according to a predefined pattern before starting an engine; and a determination step of determining the usable range of fuel to improve either the output or the fuel consumption of the engine selectively according to a predefined pattern. According to the present invention, it is possible to control the usable range of fuel by inputting a certain pattern through a software configuration in advance and operating the automatic transmission lever using the existing equipment in a vehicle without an additional installation such as a button and a switch. By doing so, the present invention is able to provide an advantageous method to control the usable range of fuel to simplify the internal structure of a vehicle.
