PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To properly separate a recording medium from a fixing member by a separation pawl by keeping the separation pawl and the fixing member at an optimum interval, without bringing the separation pawl into contact with the fixing member.SOLUTION: In a fixing device fixing a toner image on a recording medium between a fixing member 31 and a pressure roller 32 and separating the recording medium from the fixing member by a separation pawl 34, the fixing member 31 comprises a fixing belt 310 and an inner roller 311 disposed inside the fixing belt 310 and having an elastic layer 311b. A gap is provided between the fixing belt 310 and the inner roller 311 at normal temperature time, the fixing belt 310 and the inner roller 311 come into close contact with each other after heating, and a condition change caused by the thermal expansion of the elastic layer 311b is detected. At a point of time when the fixing belt 310 and the inner roller 311 come into close contact with each other, the pressure roller 32 is brought into press-contact to perform fixation. |
